Their tolerance for cold water makes them one of the few fish that can be kept with goldfish (though goldfish may eat them once they grow large enough). They also make excellent unheated tank and outdoor pond fish in temperate climates.

Best with other cold-water species: goldfish (caution โ size difference), other white clouds, rosy barbs, paradise fish, hillstream loaches. They can tolerate tropical temperatures but their lifespan is reduced above 72ยฐF.
